I can appreciate where M Phelps is coming from. Transparency would do a lot of good and would possibly encourage more people to come forth with their donations/contributions. The first planning steps mentioned by Peter seem the way to go. I guess that is something that could be done without much costs and could layout the plans for the project along with ball park funding requirements and overview of the management plans- providng the transparency to potential contributors.
It certainly is a nice thought ....but I WOULD NOT agree on the statement "probably never going to happen ".....
This is a concern that has been at the heart of OGBs for a long time now and although a system has not been put in place yet for gathering funds for the school's maintenance, I am quite positive that it will sooner or later. (sooner I hope !! ) .
I think some of the first steps to put a good working system in place would possibly be a ) Identify the local OGBs in Kalimpong and request them to set up a Maintenance Commitee ----e.g OGB Maint committee b) Open an account for collecting funds and float the request out to all OGBs worldwide c) Identify the immediate areas where maintenance needs to be done d) get an accurate estimate of the cost for repair e) Set up a short term (immediate /critical Maint schedule ) and a long term (not so critical maint work required ) schedule. Once the funds are enough for the first critical maint job, the OGB MAint Committe can interface with the School Board and offer to do maint work .
Of course there is much more to just the above .....but thats the general idea......
Going by the rules of this board the posting by M Phelps should be deleted. However, as the comment is worth considering we shall leave it up for a while. :)

That is a nice thought but probably never going to happen. At this stage I certainly would not commit into contributing $20 (or more) a month of my hard earned cash unless I knew where it was going/who was accountable for the funds.
Like many OGB's I would like support my old school but more often than not I tend to gravitate towards supporting NGO's and other local organisations http://savethehills.blogspot.com/http://www.weepingsikkim.blogspot.com/ though my monthly direct debits/ fund raising/ annual gifts/ donations etc
Perhaps a bit more efforts on the school's part to include/ inform the OGB's within Daddy Grahams' vision would be to its advantage.
I think it would be a good idea if O.G.B.S started to donate 20.00$a month or 20.00Pounds whatever the currency is and send it to some one authorised in your area(country ) and they in return issue you a reciept for the same and the money is sent every 6 months from point of collection to the homes and they in return would have to send a reciept for the same .they would have to give priority to the jobs needed and a statement of money sent to the person sending the money to the homes as to how the money is being used.
