Unbelievable, is all I can say. I stumbled on the Message Board by pure accident

I sang right through the good ole School Song & it brought back memories.

How do I register with/on the OGB's website? I belong to Milli French's Batch; Macgregor Cottage

The 'Old' School Rallying Song

Rouse up lads and lasses and list to the song
That rings acclamation to dear Kalimpong,
For there are the Homes that we love and declare,
There's nothing so good to be found anywhere.

CHORUS

Raise the chorus, hurrah,
'Tis our rallying song,
Saint Andrew's, forever,
Thorough boys (girls!), thorough.
Remember Saint Andrew's and old Kalimpong.

Our cottages teach us the value of work,
In games we despise still the one who would shirk,
In school to be the nearest the top we all try.
Our training thus fits us on self to rely.

CHORUS

Our Commonwealth is ready to honour each son
By loyally praising a duty well done
So, whether in India or over the seas,
We'll earnestly seek to maintain her decrees.

CHORUS

But far above all to our God let's be true,
And try to be Christlike in all that we do,
For then we'll be happy and go on our way,
Rejoicing and singing the whole of the day.

CHORUS

Hi Hilda, Errol and Tsering,

Nice to see you all here, Yes Tsering I remember Mt.  Herman singing this song, but never ever thought it would become our school song, I wonder , if the tune has also
changed. Nothing like 'St Andrew's Song, would  to love to have the lyrics of the old song. Errol you must have it!!!!

Gloria & Hilda,

The current "School Song" was adopted in the late 60's (You two may have just graduated).

I remember it was sung by the visiting Mt. Hermon Choir at the KGM Chapel.

The lyrics seem to resonate with the then DGH administration, as something that reflected the ideals of the school better than the "St. Andrews Song".

It was not a song that was written specifically for The Homes.

As a young lad at DGH, I didn't quite feel right that the School Song should have been one introduced to us by Mt. Herman.

Just my 2 cents.

Well Hilda, you are. This one is the current one and has been going since you left. However, when we OGBs get together and there is a mix of old & young, we sing both. My preference is the old one but those words (somehow) don't suit what DGH stands for today.

Hey sonam,
just thought id give u the school song, sorry bit tooo late but better late than never, keep and for ur next birthday celebrations u can pass it to everyone and have a good sing along.so here it goes.

Forward o youth,forever advancing,
Look to horizons far.
Eyes do not grope in depth of the night
That look on a shining star,
Nations, fearful in apartness
Need your sight to light their darkness,
Look up, O youth forever advancing
Look to horizons far.

Waken! This hour is no time for sleeping
Welcome the rising sun,
Nations are stirring out of their slumbers
Great is the work undone.
Waken sisters!Waken brothers!
Rise up now, and waken others!
Welcome the morn,a new day is born
When people shall live as one.

Go we with singing, over the land
Wherever the roadways lie.
Freedom shall be the theme of your song
The watchword of peace your cry,
Equal right for every brother,
Lands at peace with one another
Loyal to truth, the singing of yourth,
Shall echo from hill to sky.

####################################

Enjoy sonam, keep it saved in your computer and make a copy and do your school proud with your OGB'S singing with shouts of joy.
regards

JR,
I think its look "to" horizons far, not " not through" then I guess its " eyes do not grope in depths of the night" But look to the shining star"
Nations faithful (?) in apartness need your sight to light the darkness
Forward O youth forever advancing etc..
Not sure who composed it. Anyone?
