Site Admin,

Should good fortune prevail and the impending demise of this site be resurrected (along with our glorious Site Admin Team), I would still love to see a section of this site designed and dedicated exclusively to the memory of Staff & OGB's that have left us.

At the moment even a brief mention of one of 'ours' passing away seems significantly lost in all the mayhem and sundry discussion of the Message Board.

What do my fella OGB's think??

Rgds

George

Thank you Site Admin for your quick response. I truly underestimated the agility and expertise of the Admin team.

I am a running off a few points in random order for your consideration when putting this 'dedicated part of the web site together.

1. I am not convinced "yet" that the dedicated section should operate in the same way as the message Board or something similar to what we have already.

2. I have no idea of the possibilities / capabilities that will allow you to format each ' Dedicated to the Memory of . . ." corner to accomodate at least a passport sized photograph / snapshot of the person with the relevant dates of Birth & Death very similar to what you see in the pages of a daily newspaper.

3 Beneath this brief profile can follow comments / dedications to the deceased from OGB's.

4. On a public domain it might be necessary to seek the consent of family / loved ones to proceed with obituaries.

5. We do desire to make this as least complicated as possible, but I again I think if we are going to open up a new section on this web site, I think we need to do it right with both clean visual graphics and formatting as well as keep it user friendly.

6. Depending on the space allocated, reduced sized meaningful photographs can also be attached.

I shall communicate any other thought that may come to me in moments of creativity.

Way back in August, I suggested to JR we start off with the same type of Message Board as we have for "Finding OGBs" where you have the deceased person's full name as the Topic so others can respond with what they knew/know about them. (It could be an interim measure). Anyway, I got no response, hence the coma continues.

URGENT

We need an OGB who is a qualified Medical Practioner to assist this self - induced coma individual back to where we desire him most.

Till David passed on the sad news of Simon Cohen, how many of us among all the 350 members registered with this site knew of this. I certainly did not and I do remember Simon very clearly even though he left shortly after I entered DGH to return to Israel.

Would this not be a good reason getting this exclusive "In Memory Of" section together??

My Fellow OGB's,

This topic was not supposed to die even before it commenced. Errol / John perhaps you too can lend some insight and opinion to the discussion.

Is this a possibility??

John:

Everyone who has accurate and first hand information on those that left us becomes a contributor.

I have no idea on how this gets set up on this web site but I would imagine that you would have standard fields for Name, Batch Years, Cottage and photograph/s which cannot be altered by everyone except the commanders in chiefs. All other information can be fed by everyone that accesses this site and who is a member which tells the story.

I realise that I have not quite presented a systematic and workable thought here, however I will leave that to the operational 'gurus'

Dear Mr. Tweedie,
Thanks for the suggestion. Its a good idea and should not be a problem except that we need a contributor for such informations. I hope we will have some volunteers to work on this.
Rgds.,
JR.

Errol, I agree with George. There are many OGBs who have passed away and we only learn of their passing when someone mentions it on the message site or in the photo comments. Could we have a seperate section dedicated to their memory and any information on them?

Errol / John:

From time to time and out of the blue names of OGB's that have sadly left us, turn up. For example there have been photographs where some of us know and have indicated that a face is a "late" while for others this may come as a complete shock.

It would be (in my never to be humble opinion), I think, very honourable to perhaps devise a part of this web site to listing the names of the deceased, the years with which they associate and the cottages/hostels that they lived their academic years in.

Quite often there may be some of us who may even want to go a step further by writing up a little orbituary, anecdote or even a cute little story / episode that has remained tucked away in our hearts and minds.

I for one have tried to find out about the late Michael Fitzpatrick who was extremely close to my family and I, immediately after our school days. Details of his brother the late Hugh Fitzpatrick are equally unknown. I do remember a younger brother Edward and then there was also another young boy that was born into the family in the late 60's.

I do foresee that this could also be a sensitive issue to concerned family and friends who may never want to part with or have the details including names ever mentioned publicly. This obviously would have to be acknowledged and respected too.

A general opinion / consensus is welcome which will eventually assist the 'godfathers' of this site take an appropriate decision.

I would definitely not recommend this being part of the sundry Message Board but more in an exclusive location dedicated only to those being remembered.
