Just a couple of quick questions -

1. Is there a criteria for membership? Can anyone register and become a member??, although you do specify that this is for OGB's and Staff only.

2. Does the world have access to items like Message Board, Events Board, Photo Album etc.?? Should access not be for OGB Members only??

The world can access the Home page but all the rest should be made exclusive to OGB's only and MAY contribute to more of us signing up as members.

In the world of today I would imagine that most members would be concerned with their personal info being misused. So a security consideration / set up must prevail at all times.

Jog my memory if I have overlooked something that may relate to the above, already being in place.

Regarding your points above:

1. Registration (which is free) is only for OGBs - (ex students of the Homes). The staff bit was JRs idea and I never agreed to it. (he slipped that in when I wasn't looking). The reason I am not in favour is that all the information in the Registration (database) is aimed at students. For staff, we would have to have a different set of questions which has not been addressed yet. So, at this point, it is meaningless for staff to register.

2. The 'world' has access to all the links you see down the left hand side of your screen except the second link from the top that says 'Sign In' which allows those OGBs registered, into the database which contains 'not so personal' information on OGBs. It is actually IN the database where you can share a lot of your school memories !!!

You need to know your user name & password to get in there.

The reasons OGBs dont register are many.

a) A lot of them can't be bothered: "I have better things to do" type of thing; this person is known as the "idhar se jao" wala - go away!

b) Some even have the view, "let bygones be bygones; why live in the past?" This group has (possibly) bad memories of school life;

c) Some assume there is some kind of fee involved;

d) Some are too busy, "I'll get around to it one of these days" types (aaj nahin, kal! - Not today, tomorrow) they have good intentions and are known as the 'kal kal' walas (tomorrow, tomorrow). Alan Carey springs to mind so does my wife! This type of person also gives the same excuse with donating photos for the site. This species is found predominantly in the UK. (The weather may have something to do with it). However, I have had some good results from a couple of them in the 'warmer' regions; ;)

e) Mostly, there are those who are paranoid about putting personal information on the Web. They tell me, "ask me again, Errol and I'll box you!". These are known as the 'boxy' walas, distant cousins of the Homes type. I could mention a name here but I might get a well-placed khafthu so I'll mention my sister, instead;

f) Lastly, there are those that wash their hands completely off the Homes, otherwise known as the 'dhobi' walas.

So you see, GFT, you may know one from each category. If you think of anymore please let me know. Cheers. wink.gif eW

Thanks Errol:
I guess that explains the fluctualtion on numbers. I notice that we are now sitting at 328. Walla!!

John :
Appreciate all the dedicated time that both of you put into this website. Can't wait to see what you will introduce in terms of programming / software. Should I hear of any freebees I will certainly pass them onto you.

John why don't you give all the members a brief on the cost factors involved in doing what you are doing. I have no doubt that members would be more than pleased to come in with a host of suggestions etc. .....

Take care guys and keep plugging away

GFT

Did we just lose a member, I was under the impression the we had got to 326 members. I now see 325.

It would be nice if each and every one of us who are existing members reaches out to those that we are in touch with and encourage them to sign up with the DGH - OGB family (if they haven't already). Membership refferal would definitely keep the buzz going.

I feel the site has got to be a more interesting place to come for us to meet up with each other.

Our web site gurus will have to work even harder to keep updating this site and devise perhaps other interesting areas to stimulate our creative juices and gossip talents.

I personally find the Events Board, The News Board and Finding OGB's quite uninteresting, part of it may be due to the formatting and visual impact. As you can see the Events Board and the News Board are crying out for updates and patronage. Perhaps these two may also need to be re constructed and amalgamated as one. The formats somehow do not get my very own personal taste buds going.

Crosswords, puzzles, a jokes corner and competitions may provide more interest for all of us. Can you imagine a prize like getting a "Free trip on Des' ship complimented with a Momo dinner"!!!!!

Just my thoughts. Anyone out there with some magic ideas??

George, Some OGBs register with very little information about themselves. These are deleted as soon as they are detected. Others can't remember their passwords to log in and so they register again. These (duplicates) too, have to be deleted as it gives a false reading of the number registered. Thirdly, we recently had a bogus registration from a low-life type who placed links to other less-desirable web sites. Needless to say it was dispensed with post haste. So, these things have to be monitored and dealt with and you may see a fluctuation in the Member numbers now and then. eW

Mr. George, Thanks a lot for your views and suggestions to enhance our Alumni site. We welcome your ideas and definitely implement it in our new look which probably would happen in within 2-3 months time.
Before we do that we will ask our members to choose the template (design) its very professional and classy with all the modern tools.
I agree with you that bunch of stuff here not useful and need to sort it out please bare with us for awhile. Should you have more freebies am happy to try them hehehhee :D we do need sponsors.
Cheers,
JR.

PS: Dear members, pls. follow Mr. GFT and pour your valuable suggestions which will help us get a concept on creating new look of our site.  Thanks!
